RECTOR, TEACHERS AND STUDENTS OF THE UNIA DID AN INTERNSHIP AT OCHO SUR

2 March, 2025

As part of its Internship Program and ongoing collaboration with the Academy in 2025, the Ocho Sur business group, dedicated to the sustainable production of oil palm in Ucayali, hosted a delegation from the National Intercultural University of the Amazon (UNIA, by its acronym in Spanish), at its agricultural and industrial facilities in Ucayali.

The delegation was led by Dr. Juan López Ruíz, Rector of the UNIA, and included research professors and students from the Agroforestry Aquaculture Engineering and Agroindustrial Engineering programs of this university, which is considered the first Intercultural University in Peru.

The reception committee of the palm-growing company was composed of Ulises Saldaña, Community Relations Manager; Alexander Rosales, Agricultural Manager; and Iván Tello, Manager of the Palm Oil Processing Plant, who explained the sustainable production techniques used by Ocho Sur in the region.

During the tour, the Rector of the Intercultural University announced that an important framework agreement will soon be signed between UNIA and Grupo Ocho Sur, which will benefit engineering students by providing them with training opportunities, professional practices, thesis preparation, and internships, thus strengthening their academic preparation with field experiences.

Dr. López Ruíz also highlighted the commitment to social responsibility that the palm oil group maintains with neighboring communities, towns and villages; as well as its corporate policy focus on protecting the environment and promoting inclusive economic development in the Peruvian Amazon.

After concluding the internship, the Community Relations Manager emphasized the importance of the university visit, pointing out that it aligns with the Internship Program with the Academy promoted by the company, with the aim of allowing educational institutions and other local actors to learn about its sustainable production model.

“We want to show in Ucayali how we manage environmental resources, the circular economy applied in our processes and our impact on the economic development of the region,” stated Ulises Saldaña, while announcing that a draft agreement with UNIA is already in place and will be signed in the coming days.
