Ocho Sur, a business group dedicated to the sustainable production of palm oil and its derivatives in Ucayali, proudly announces the arrival of Peruvian football legends Héctor Chumpitaz and Sergio “Checho” Ibarra to Pucallpa for the inauguration of the 4th Ocho Sur Cup.
The official opening ceremony of the tournament will take place on Sunday, June 1st at 9:00 a.m. at the Nueva Requena Stadium and will feature the participation of 27 teams — 15 men’s and 12 women’s — representing 16 rural communities across Nueva Requena and Curimaná. These include native communities, villages, and populated centers, all competing for the championship title in their respective localities.
The festive ceremony will include the presence of local authorities and a colorful parade of all participating teams. Chumpitaz and Ibarra, two of the most celebrated figures in Peruvian football, will attend the event and interact with the public prior to the tournament’s opening matches.
Referred to by the local population as “The Cup that Unites Communities”, the Ocho Sur Cup is a community-based tournament that promotes integration, sportsmanship, and healthy competition among rural populations.
Further details will be shared during a press conference on Thursday, May 29, hosted by Ocho Sur. Admission to the event is free, and all members of the public are welcome to attend.
