A great intercommunity sports festival was the inauguration of the second edition of the Copa Ocho Sur 2023, held on Saturday, July 1 at the Nueva Requena stadium, which included the participation of the charismatic sports host and former player Sergio “Checho” Ibarra, who took the style oath to the participating teams.
The joy and fraternity between players prevailed in this colorful beginning of the interesting soccer championship that brings together 11 women’s teams and 15 men’s teams, representatives of 26 native communities, hamlets and town centers in the districts of Nueva Requena and Curimaná.
The football event that has caused expectations in Pucallpa has been organized for the second time by Ocho Sur, a business group dedicated to the sustainable production of oil palm products and derivatives in Ucayali, within the framework of its social responsibility and community relations policy.
This was confirmed by Alfonso Morante, senior manager of the palm oil company, specifying that the main objective of this championship, which will last four months, is to strengthen the ties of friendship and strengthen unity between neighbors, promoting values among the players with the healthy practice of the popular sport of soccer.
During the opening ceremony, the popular sports host “Checho” Ibarra, considered the all-time top scorer in the first division of Peruvian soccer, excitedly took the oath to the athletes and then went to each of the teams to shake hands with the players, expressing their appreciation for their participation in this soccer tournament.
Also attending the sports festival were Humberto Banda, mayor of Nueva Requena; Clever Montes, mayor of Curimaná; Donato Fernández, mayor of Campo Verde; and Marco Fernández, president of the IPD of Ucayali; who expressed their satisfaction and congratulations to Ocho Sur for its social support to the communities, bringing sport to youth.
