OCHO SUR CUP RETURNS FOR ITS 4TH EDITION ON SUNDAY, JUNE 1 AT NUEVA REQUENA STADIUM

Ocho Sur, a company focused on the sustainable production of palm oil in Ucayali, announced in a press conference the return of the popular Men’s and Women’s Intercommunity Football Championship — the Ocho Sur Cup. The fourth edition will begin this Sunday, June 1, at the Nueva Requena Stadium.

To join the opening ceremony, Peruvian football legend Héctor Chumpitaz and former player and sports commentator Sergio “Checho” Ibarra will arrive in Pucallpa this Friday, May 30. They will greet and talk with fans during the event.

This year’s Ocho Sur Cup will have 27 teams, including both men’s and women’s teams. They represent 16 rural communities from Nueva Requena and Curimaná, such as native communities, villages, and small towns. Teams will play each week in their own communities.

Ulises Saldaña Bardales, head of the organizing committee and Community Relations Manager at Ocho Sur, announced that the opening event will begin at 9:00 a.m. It will feature a colorful parade with 15 men’s teams and 12 women’s teams.

During the ceremony, “Checho” Ibarra will lead the athletes in the traditional oath. After that, the first matches will begin:
– Women’s match: Santa Clara de Uchunya vs. Unión Progreso
– Men’s match: San Juan de Tahuapoa vs. Roca Fuerte

The tournament will last four months. The winning men’s and women’s teams will receive trophies, medals, and 20,000 soles for their communities. The runner-up teams will receive medals and 10,000 soles.

The participating communities include: Santa Clara de Uchunya, Kokamas, Amakella, Nueva Esperanza, Naranjal, Caribe, San Pablo de Juantía, Unión Progreso, Tres Islas, Sanja Seca, San Juan de Tahuapoa, Barranca, Nuevo Edén, Bajo Rayal, Roca Fuerte, and Los Ángeles.

At the end of the press conference, the match schedule was drawn and team uniforms were symbolically given to the 16 community representatives.
