OCHO SUR HAS NO OIL PALM PROJECT IN THE SAN FRANCISCO COMMUNITY

15 January, 2025

Once again, Ocho Sur, a business group dedicated to the sustainable production of oil palm products and by-products in Ucayali, through a communiqué, denies false accusations that appeared in a regional newspaper and certain social media networks. These accusations are linked to well-known NGOs that have been legally and media-wise harassing the palm oil producer for several years.

In the communiqué, the company clarifies that it has no oil palm project in the native community of San Francisco de Yarinacocha, nor is there any type of formal agreement with representatives of that Shipibo-Konibo people to develop such projects in the future.

It also states that it has no relationship with Mr. Marangoni Urquía regarding any activity related to oil palm cultivation, emphasizing that the individual decisions and actions of any person are of a personal nature and in no way bind Ocho Sur.

“We categorically deny any attempt to link Ocho Sur with coercive or divisive activities, as our company respects and values democratic processes and the autonomy of communities. Internal differences that may exist within the San Francisco community are matters beyond the scope of our business organization,” the communiqué reads.

In this context, the palm oil producer states that “these constant publications attempting to associate the company with conflicts and illegal activities are part of a systematic disinformation campaign by certain NGOs aimed at damaging our image and obtaining improper economic benefits without any ethics,” the company asserts.

Ocho Sur concludes its communiqué by urging media outlets to verify their journalistic reports with reliable sources before spreading versions that only promote misinformation and conflict.
