23 April, 2021

Ocho Sur began operations in 2016 and has not expanded its area worked.

Grupo Ocho Sur, a company dedicated to sustainable palm production in the Ucayali region, denounces that it has been the subject of persecution for developing activities that are within the framework of the Law, which is carried out by certain officials of the Directorate General of Agrarian Environmental Affairs (DGAAA) of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation (MIDAGRI), and the First Specialized Corporate Supraprovincial Prosecutor’s Office against Organized Crime.

This was made known to the press by his legal advisor, Guillermo Freund, who stated that employees of both organizations have taken powers that are outside the scope of their powers, by wanting to ignore and illegally question a legitimate Resolution of the Regional Government, the which authorized the procedure for changing land use for agricultural projects.

The company’s lawyer directly accused the official Christian Tucto Leandro, legal specialist of the DGAAA, and the deputy prosecutor Geraldy Peña Chumbes of the Supraprovincial Prosecutor’s Office, as responsible for acting in a biased manner and outside the framework of the law to intimidate GORE Ucayali. and its officials, against Ocho Sur.

In this context, he stressed that it is known to all that the procedure for changes in land use is regulated by Law 29763, whose authority falls on the National Forestry and Wildlife Service (SERFOR) and the Regional Management Offices or Directorates. Forestry and Wildlife.

“Therefore, it is strange that these officials, knowing that they have no jurisdiction in the case, act by usurping functions and abusing their authority, to intimidate GORE Ucayali employees, for no greater reason than to harm the company and the population of our Ucaya region,” stated Freund.

Likewise, he recalled that Ocho Sur is one of the most important companies in the Region and the Peruvian Amazon, doing agriculture in a formal, responsible and sustainable way.

“The group has invested more than US$ 140 million, being the largest formal employer in the region with 1,700 direct jobs and an engine of the regional economy with local purchases of more than US$ 10 million a year,” said Guillermo Freund. .

Finally, he announced that they are seeking to hold an urgent meeting with the head of MIDAGRI and the Prosecutor of the Nation, to alert them of the actions of these officials and to take action on the matter, to avoid conflicts that should never exist between the State and a formal, serious and sustainable investment that brings development to the country and a region like Ucayali, which needs it.
