In a joint effort to strengthen access to healthcare in rural Amazon communities, the sustainable palm oil company Ocho Sur, the Rotary Club Akinti Pucallpa, and the Regional Health Directorate (Diresa) of Ucayali carried out a free medical campaign in the Roca Fuerte settlement in the district of Curimaná, benefiting families living in this remote area of the Peruvian Amazon.
The medical outreach, which also received support from the Municipality of Curimaná and the Medical College of Ucayali, provided specialized healthcare services to 188 residents, including children, youth, adults, and seniors, who received medical consultations and free medicines.
Health specialists highlighted the importance of bringing essential healthcare services closer to remote Indigenous and rural Amazon communities. Representatives from Ocho Sur reaffirmed the company’s commitment to improving the well-being and social development of the communities neighboring its operations in the districts of Curimaná and Nueva Requena.
José Camacho, lieutenant governor of Roca Fuerte, expressed his gratitude to the institutions that made possible the first-ever medical campaign held at the recently inaugurated Roca Fuerte Health Post, a facility built with the support of Ocho Sur and the collaboration of local residents.
Meanwhile, Curimaná Mayor Cleber Montes Izquierdo announced that he will coordinate with the Regional Health Director of Ucayali, Patrick Pantoja, to issue the formal resolution that will officially establish the Roca Fuerte Health Post. He noted that this new facility will significantly strengthen access to medical services in the area.
Ulises Saldaña, Community Relations Manager at Ocho Sur, stated:
“Through coordinated work, we were able to provide timely care to families who usually must travel long distances to receive medical attention. Together, we are helping to improve the quality of life of our rural populations, especially the children of these Amazon communities.”
ROTARY HONORS OCHO SUR
During the medical campaign, Linder Ramírez, President of the Rotary Club Akinti Pucallpa, recognized Ocho Sur for its invaluable contribution to the successful development of the Roca Fuerte Rotary Medical Campaign “Comprehensive Health for All – 2025”, a major milestone for public health in the Ucayali region.
