At Ocho Sur, we are working to track and reduce our carbon footprint. To understand our carbon footprint better, we hired Green Initiative to analyze our business’s net carbon emissions. Their 2022 study reported that our fields captured over 14 million tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (tCO2eq) since the beginning of our operations in 2016.
Only in 2022, our fields captured more than 944,841.73 tCO2eq from the air. The studies by Green Initiative are ongoing and have recently assessed our carbon emissions at 26,631.96 tCO2eq in 2022.
Reduciendo Nuestras Emisiones de Carbono
Although the results from Green Initiative are encouraging, we are committed to further reducing our carbon footprint. Currently, our factory is the largest emitter, with wastewater treatment and fuel usage being the main sources of greenhouse gas emissions at Ocho Sur. We have significantly reduced tCO2eq by eliminating methane gas emissions and plan to further decrease our carbon footprint by acquiring electric vehicles, expanding solar capacity at our camps, and installing new biofuel turbines.
