An important free comprehensive medical campaign was developed in the Shambo Porvenir native community, which brought together doctors of various specialties, dentists, nurses and health technicians from the Ucayali Regional Health Directorate, the Nueva Requena Health Micro Network and the Federico Basadre Health Network.

During medical care, consultations were provided to children, adolescents and adults in general medicine, dentistry, obstetrics (prenatal control and family planning), nutrition and application of vaccines against covid-19 for the population over 5 years of age, so that complete their protection period against the coronavirus.

The health campaign in Shambo Porvenir had the support of Ocho Sur, a business group dedicated to the sustainable production of oil palm products and derivatives in Ucayali, within the framework of its social responsibility and community relations policy.

Doctor Licurgo Jara, head of the Nueva Requena Micro Health Network, highlighted that thanks to the collaboration of the palm growing company, it was also possible to provide the services of a laboratory to control the hemoglobin dosage of pregnant women, children and adults; as well as the ruling out of hepatitis B, syphilis and sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV.

He added that a staff from the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS) of the Ministry of Health also attended this free medical campaign, with the aim of enrolling native residents who did not have the protection of health insurance.

“In this visit to Shambo Porvenir we have managed to serve a total of 544 residents in different specialties,” stressed doctor Licurgo Jara.

For his part, Bruno Tangoa, head of the native community, expressed his joy by highlighting the success of the medical campaign, specifying that “due to economic measures it is very difficult for the community members to go out to the city of Pucallpa to monitor their health.”

He said he was very grateful to the doctors and health personnel who came to them and to the Ocho Sur company that provided the facilities so that the professionals could be present in Shambo Porvenir.
