As a result of the heavy rains that recently hit the Ucayali region, several Indigenous and mestizo communities located along the banks of the Bajo Aguaytía River in the district of Nueva Requena, Pucallpa, were severely affected by rising water levels. The flooding destroyed roads and isolated entire villages, while also wiping out large areas of subsistence crops.
In response to this critical situation, Ocho Sur, a business group dedicated to the sustainable production of palm oil and its derivatives in Ucayali, activated its emergency protocols as part of its Social Responsibility Policy and stepped in to support neighboring communities. To date, the company has donated more than 18 tons of essential food supplies to affected families.
Reaffirming its strong ties of solidarity and good neighborliness, Ocho Sur provided a variety of food items including rice, pasta, oats, cassava flour, live chickens, potatoes, onions, tomatoes, carrots, oil, sugar, salt, flour, garlic, beans, milk, and other basic staples, tailored to each community’s population size and the duration of the flooding.
The donations reached the native communities of Shambo Porvenir and Santa Clara de Uchunya; the populated centers of Nueva Unión Progreso and Esperanza; and the villages of Tres Islas, Nueva Barranca, and Naranjal, totaling 18 tons and 195 kilograms of food supplies.
Leaders of these Indigenous communities expressed, on behalf of all residents, their sincere gratitude and appreciation to Ocho Sur for once again demonstrating its commitment to humanitarian support, compassion, and solidarity during one of the most challenging moments they have faced.
