Following intense rainfall across the Ucayali region, the Shambo Porvenir native community, located in Nueva Requena, Pucallpa, was severely affected by the overflow of the Aguaytía River. The flooding left the community practically isolated due to the destruction of its access roads by water and mud.
The disaster left numerous families without food, destroyed crops, and exposed residents to significant health risks.
Ocho Sur’s Immediate Response
In response to this emergency, Ocho Sur — a company dedicated to the sustainable production of palm oil in the Ucayali region — mobilized support for the Shipibo-Konibo population, delivering more than 2.5 tons of essential food supplies as part of its corporate social responsibility policy.
Upon learning of the magnitude of the flooding, the company established immediate contact with community chief Sixto Gómez to assess the most urgent needs arising from the natural disaster.
Food Aid Delivered to the Community
As a result of this coordination, Ocho Sur donated essential food items including rice, flour, cooking oil, sugar, pasta, salt, and oats, among other staples — reaffirming its commitment to the well-being of neighboring communities and strengthening ties of cooperation and good neighborliness.
The aid delivery was led by Ulises Saldaña, Community Relations Manager at Ocho Sur, who conveyed the solidarity and support of the company’s senior leadership to the affected families.
Community chief Sixto Gómez expressed, on behalf of all residents, his recognition and gratitude to Ocho Sur for the support the company consistently provides to neighboring communities, towns, and villages during their most difficult moments.
