The Regional Technical Working Group of the Oil Palm Production Chain–Ucayali, in coordination with the Regional Directorate of Agriculture (DRA), carried out a field visit to the facilities of the Ocho Sur business group. The activity included the participation of producers from the Central Committee of Oil Palm Growers of Ucayali (COCEPU), the Vice-Rector of the National Intercultural University of the Amazon (UNIA), the director of IIAP, and private entrepreneurs.
The main objective of this field visit was to share with participants Ocho Sur’s experience and best agricultural and industrial practices applied in its oil palm production and processing.
This was confirmed by Eng. Bella Nair Salas Pérez, Director of Agricultural Promotion and Competitiveness at the DRA, who noted that participants took part in a productive tour through the various processes, from production to processing of this crop.
“This visit to Ocho Sur has strengthened capacities and inspired participants to take this technology as a reference and apply it in the field to improve production levels,” emphasized the official.
Likewise, Eng. Alexander Pérez Espejo, president of the Regional Technical Working Group, expressed his satisfaction with the visit, adding that he witnessed, alongside producers, how Ocho Sur carries out responsible and sustainable oil palm management, particularly by applying circular economy principles in the process.
Regarding the management of the Working Group, he noted that they are seeking strategic alliances with both the public and private sectors “to replicate models and strengthen ourselves, because we are a very strong guild in the country and must be able to defend ourselves against certain attacks from ‘environmentalists,’ since oil palm is a very noble crop that generates jobs, ensures long-term sustainability, and improves producers’ incomes.”
For his part, UNIA Vice-Rector Víctor Sotero said he was pleased to see Ocho Sur’s progress in improving plantations and oil production in Ucayali, highlighting the care given to the crop, which generates employment and drives the national economy.
“What we have seen is a very rapid and significant development—plantations managed by expert agronomists and processing plants operated by highly trained personnel. Here, we are building the Nation,” said the university authority.
The Ocho Sur reception committee included Ulises Saldaña, Community Relations Manager, and Alexander Rosales, Agricultural Manager, who presented the regenerative agriculture and circular economy techniques led by the palm oil group in Ucayali.
