OCHO SUR REAFFIRMS ITS COMMITMENT TO ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND AMAZON FOREST CONSERVATION

1 November, 2025

Ocho Sur, a leading Peruvian agro-industrial group focused on the sustainable production of palm oil in Ucayali, proudly joins the celebration of Forest Week, reaffirming its long-term commitment to environmental protection, zero-deforestation practices, and the responsible development of the palm oil sector in the Amazon. The company promotes a model that integrates regenerative agriculture, forest landscape management, and biodiversity conservation across the region.

Senior executive Alfonso Morante emphasized that Forest Week—launched yesterday—serves as an important opportunity to reiterate the company’s commitment to collaborating with national and local authorities, Indigenous communities, environmental organizations, and key Amazonian stakeholders to guarantee the protection of forest ecosystems in Ucayali, Peru.

“At Ocho Sur, we firmly believe that sustainability, transparency, and responsible palm oil production are the only path forward. Forest Week allows us to highlight our ongoing efforts to promote an ESG-aligned approach that protects native forests, preserves critical habitats, strengthens climate resilience, and generates economic well-being for local families,” Morante stated.

In this context, he noted that the palm oil producer operates under strict national and international environmental compliance and sustainability standards, ensuring legal traceability and demonstrating how agro-industrial operations can be positively integrated into the Amazon rainforest landscape while supporting Peru’s climate and conservation goals.

FOREST CONSERVATION INITIATIVES

As part of its corporate social responsibility policy (CSR), Ocho Sur implements concrete, innovative programs to protect Ucayali’s forests through strategic partnerships with Indigenous communities. These long-term agreements provide economic incentives, technical monitoring, and community support to conserve more than 2,000 hectares of primary Amazon forest for a period of 25 years.

“To date, we have formal agreements with the Indigenous communities of Shambo Porvenir (803.65 ha) and Santa Clara de Uchunya (1,200 ha). Through these partnerships, our company provides financial incentives for forest monitoring, conservation activities, and initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life of local residents,” concluded Morante.

With these actions, Ocho Sur reinforces its role as a benchmark for responsible palm oil production, forest governance, and sustainable development in the Peruvian Amazon, contributing directly to global efforts to combat climate change and protect biodiversity.
