OCHO SUR DEFENDS THE RIGHTS OF ITS WORKERS AND THE ENVIRONMENT

The Ocho Sur business group, dedicated to the sustainable production of palm oil in Ucayali, today announced its firm will to defend the rights of its workers and the environment, using all available legal resources.

This was reported by its general manager, Michael Spoor, upon dissemination of the content of a resolution issued by the Environmental Assessment and Enforcement Agency (OEFA), ordering the immediate cessation of operations of the leading oil palm company in the region.

He explained that Ocho Sur currently has a process in progress for Environmental Certification in the Environmental Management Adequacy Program (PAMA) of the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation, and that the law does not allow the intervention of other state entities, while it is the application is in full processing.

“The OEFA was not aware of this procedure when it issued its resolution on Ocho Sur P, however, we will continue a constructive dialogue in accordance with the law with the management bodies of the OEFA, to whom the very serious labor consequences have been explained. social and environmental impacts that would arise from the execution of the aforementioned resolution,” said Michael Spoor.

Fundamental component of the regional economy

On the other hand, he highlighted that, four years after acquiring the company, its palm plantations have become a fundamental component of the regional economy, with a fruit production of almost double the average of its competitors, the strict respect for the environment, the generation of more than 1,700 jobs, the payment of taxes and the purchase of goods and services from neighbors and local companies.

Finally, Spoor specified that Ocho Sur maintains its strong commitment to always act within the framework of the law, and guaranteeing the sustainable development of Ucayali.
