INAUGURATION OF THE FIRST EIGHT SUR CUP

A great intercommunity sports festival resulted in the inauguration of the First Ocho Sur Cup, held last Saturday the 16th at the Nueva Requena Stadium, which included the participation of the prominent former player Hugo “Cholo” Sotil, who was part of the notable generation of soccer players. At this start of the colorful men’s and women’s soccer championship, joy and fraternity prevailed among athletes and the public from the 15 communities of the districts of Nueva Requena and Curimaná, who offered their typical dances and the parade of their respective teams.

The football event that has caused expectations in Ucayali, has been organized by Ocho Sur, a business group dedicated to the sustainable production of oil palm products and derivatives in Ucayali, within the framework of its community relations program.

This was confirmed by Michael Spoor, general manager of the palm oil company, stating that the main objective of this championship is to strengthen the ties of friendship between neighbors with the healthy practice of the popular sport of soccer. At the end of his speech he declared the championship inaugurated.

The sports festival was also attended by Sixto Gómez, mayor (e) of Nueva Requena, and William Muñoz, mayor of Curimaná, who expressed their satisfaction and congratulations to Ocho Sur for its social support to the communities of its districts and now, for bringing sport for youth that teaches the virtues of effort, perseverance and discipline.

For his part, “Cholo” Sotil relived his moments of glory when he was acclaimed by those attending the stadium. He had the responsibility of swearing in the members of the 23 teams (15 men and 8 women) and gave the honorary play of the first match of the Ocho Sur Cup, in which the Shambo Porvenir and Unión teams tied 1 – 1 Progress.

Moments before this official match, there was a women’s soccer exhibition match between the squads from the communities of Naranjal and La Perla de Sanja Seca, in which the first of those named won 3 – 0. The honor play was position of the general manager of the palm growing group, Michael Spoor.
