OEFA CONFIRMS THAT OCHO SUR MEETS ENVIRONMENTAL OBLIGATIONS

9 September, 2021

The Ocho Sur Group, a company dedicated to the sustainable production of palm products and derivatives, reported that the Environmental Supervision Court of OEFA, the last instance in environmental matters, confirmed that the activities carried out by Ocho Sur comply with the environmental obligations established by national legislation.

This was announced by its CEO, Michael Spoor, who explained that the Environmental Control Court revoked Directorial Resolution No. 0672-2021 OEFA-DFAI of March 30, 2021 in the matter related to an alleged infraction for not having taken the necessary measures to prevent certain compounds used in agricultural operations from adversely impacting forest-type soils. In this way, the OEFA annulled the infraction and fine previously imposed against the company.

It is important to remember that, last April, the Directorate of Inspection and Application of Incentives (DFAI) of the Environmental Assessment and Enforcement Agency (OEFA), corrected its ruling and revoked an order to stop operations and an associated fine of 9 million soles imposed in November 2020 for the alleged violation of not having the environmental permits required to operate; fact that never existed.

The CEO of Ocho Sur, Michael Spoor, specified that these recent decisions of the highest levels of the OEFA, as well as the resolutions issued by the Vice Ministry of Development of Family Farming and Agrarian Infrastructure and Irrigation, the highest authority of the agricultural sector in environmental matters, confirm that Ocho Sur is in compliance with current environmental regulations, while it finishes processing its Environmental Adequacy Programs (PAMA) and also demonstrates that its operations do not generate adverse effects on the environment.
